House History
The house, which is Grade II listed, is believed to date back to the Jacobean Period (1606-1625) and some of the exposed beams and carved woodwork may well be original. However, substantial rebuilding took place in 1858 and a date plaque to this effect can be seen on the south facing wall. Old maps show the property as 'Middle House' before a name change was made in 1930. Until that date it was part of an 80 acre estate which operated as a farm with pigs, horses, fruit and arable farming. In 2001 we embarked on a substantial building project enlarging the cottage and constructing the garage block incorporating office space and a flat. We have revived the name 'Middle House' for this building. |
