Orleton House Worcestershire England

House History

The house, which is Grade II listed, is believed to date back to the Jacobean Period (1606-1625) and some of the exposed beams and carved woodwork may well be original. However, substantial rebuilding took place in 1858 and a date plaque to this effect can be seen on the south facing wall. Old maps show the property as 'Middle House' before a name change was made in 1930. Until that date it was part of an 80 acre estate which operated as a farm with pigs, horses, fruit and arable farming. In 2001 we embarked on a substantial building project enlarging the cottage and constructing the garage block incorporating office space and a flat. We have revived the name 'Middle House' for this building.

The owners Jenny and John Hughes

Jenny was brought up in Kidderminster and John in Stourport and both have spent most of their lives in Worcestershire. We bought Orleton House in 1990 when the buildings needed attention and there was little or no garden except for some mature shrubs and trees. We both love gardening but Jenny is also an enthusiastic potter and John enjoys all types of maintenance and construction work.
